How it is built

Structure

Semantic HTML with one heading per page at the top, landmarks for the header, navigation, main content and footer, and a skip link as the first thing on every page.

Keyboard

Everything works without a mouse. Focus is always visible: a ring in the focus colour with a hard halo, so it reads on every fill in both themes.

Contrast

Every text colour is checked against the darkest and lightest surface it sits on in each theme, at 4.5:1 or better. Control edges pass 3:1.

Text size

Sizes are set relative to your browser’s text setting, not in pixels, so raising the default size in your browser raises it here. Zoom works to 400% without sideways scrolling.

Colour and motion

The theme follows your system setting and can be overridden in the header. Animation is off when your system asks for reduced motion, and the header switch turns it on or off either way. Both choices are remembered.

Decoration

Decorative graphics, the letter tiles and the stripe are hidden from assistive technology and paired with the same words as real text.

Checking

Every page is run through axe-core in both themes on every build, then walked through by keyboard and at high zoom. No known WCAG 2.2 AA failures.
